The Scholarship Committee selects the recipients of four $1,000 scholarships awarded annually by the GHA. The GHA sponsors these scholarships to encourage post high school education for students with bleeding disorders.
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of their potential to succeed, academic achievement, leadership, participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of educational and career goals, how having a bleeding disorder has affected personal and family circumstances, and references. The deadline for application is March 31 of the year the scholarships are awarded. Applicants are notified of the committee's scholarship decisions by May 15.
If more qualified applications are received than scholarships available, preference will be given to first-time applicants.
Qualities sought: Standardized test scores which show student's capability of completing a degree program; GPA (Attendance to be taken into consideration; for example, if someone manages to keep up a good GPA despite medical absences); personal recommendations, work experience, extracurricular activities and volunteer work.
